![]() Volume 1 is interesting for the same reasons most early comics of really major characters are, for the campiness and to see how far they came (for example, very first issue takes place in "New York City", they sort of retcon this one issue later, and their way of imprisoning people is. I think volume 3 introduces Judge Death, so that's probably important enough, and 2 is the Cursed Earth Saga which is just kind of a fun series of stories outside the walls of Mega City One (you may stumble across a story that makes you wonder if Michael Crichton was a 2000AD fan). ![]() They're worth reading if you want to, but otherwise The Apocalypse War is really the biggest storyline of all of Judge Dredd, it has continuously been referenced and used as the anchor for other major events, including comics that only came out like 10 or fewer years ago (like the Day of Chaos run, and I think another more recent run).
